Managing Tough Talks at Work

Tough conversations happen in all workplaces – no one is immune. Maybe you have a colleague that constantly tests your patience. Perhaps your team works under the constant strain of high-pressure deadlines. It could be that frustrated customers or clients are the norm for your industry or sector. Whatever your circumstances, all staff can benefit from training in the skills needed to de-escalate challenging situations.

In this 90-minute workshop, learn strategies to manage your reactions to tense situations, and to diffuse disagreements respectfully and safely when others become hostile.

Learn to:
  • Understand our typical responses to stressful situations so that we can engage in conversations with empathy;
  • Explore empathy and assertiveness as key tools for finding common ground and managing challenges; and
  • Practice techniques for de-escalating highly charged situations and providing helpful feedback.

The course fee varies between $60 and $85 depending on the ticket type.

The next session will take place on April 16, 2025, between 9 am – 10:30 am (PDT, Vancouver).

Engaged’s team of experts facilitated a coordinated solutions-based approach. I found them to be very knowledgeable in their specialist areas. The certificate has allowed me to advance my skills in HR and I know this will set me up for any future HR challenges in the pipeline!”

Pam Prewett  /  Victoria Brain Injury Society

“Participating in the Art of HR certificate program offered by Engaged has been an enlightening and rewarding experience for me, both professionally and personally. The value these workshops have brought to my role at VBIS is truly significant.

What stood out most in these programs was their interactive format. This wasn’t just about learning from the instructors; it was an immersive experience where I could engage with and learn from other participants as well. This dynamic environment not only enriched my learning experience but also fostered a sense of community and shared growth.”

Learning from experts in their fields about the main functions of HR, best practices, tips and tricks made this experience incomparable to other HR courses I have done. Each class broke down the concepts in digestible ways and could be for someone just starting out or as a refresher and update for existing HR professionals.”
